Echeveria agavoides 'Pluto Galaxy'

Echeveria agavoides 'Pluto Galaxy' is a compact rosette succulent with thick, pointed leaves in green to grey-green tones, edged and tipped with deeper red colouring. Its shape is built from firm, triangular leaves that overlap closely around a short central stem.

This cultivar has agavoides-type pointed leaves, waxy leaf surfaces and a close, agave-like outline. Bright light, lean mineral substrate and careful watering keep the water-storing leaves firm.

What defines Echeveria agavoides 'Pluto Galaxy'

  • Growth habit: Dense, low rosette with limited vertical height in a small pot.
  • Leaf shape: Thick ovate-triangular leaves narrowing to pointed tips.
  • Colour: Green to grey-green leaf blades with burgundy-red margins and tips.
  • Root behaviour: Fine succulent roots need air-filled gaps after each watering.
  • Indoor conditions: Very bright windowsills, grow-light shelves or rain-sheltered summer positions keep the rosette compact.

Short-stemmed rosette growth

Echeveria agavoides is an accepted Crassulaceae species native to north-eastern and south-western Mexico, where it grows in desert or dry shrubland conditions. The short stem, dense rosette and thick leaves all point to a plant adapted to storing water while its roots experience fast wet-dry cycles.

'Pluto Galaxy' needs the same fast-draining, bright, dry care pattern. A shallow mineral mix, a pot with free drainage and strong light help the plant keep a compact centre, while repeated dampness around the base can damage the stem before the outer leaves collapse.

Care cues for Echeveria agavoides 'Pluto Galaxy'

  • Light: Give several hours of direct gentle sun or strong artificial light to maintain firm, close leaf spacing.
  • Watering: Water only after the full pot has dried; during winter, extend the dry interval because growth slows with lower light.
  • Substrate: Use a fast-draining mix dominated by mineral particles such as pumice, lava, grit or coarse sand.
  • Pot depth: A small, shallow pot suits the short root system better than a deep container that stays damp at the bottom.
  • Temperature: Keep above 8 °C indoors and avoid cool moisture around the stem base.
  • Airflow: Maintain open air around the rosette; enclosed glass displays increase the risk of fungal marks and crown rot.
  • Feeding: Use a diluted cactus fertiliser once or twice during active growth, especially after repotting into a lean mineral mix.
  • Cleaning: Remove dry lower leaves once crisp to expose pests and keep the stem area tidy.

Troubleshooting Echeveria agavoides 'Pluto Galaxy'

  • Widening centre: New leaves spread out when light is too weak; adjust placement before the stem begins to lengthen.
  • Soft brown base: Stem rot comes from wet substrate and poor airflow; check roots immediately and salvage firm rosette tissue if needed.
  • Leaf splitting: Sudden heavy watering after a long dry spell can split swollen leaves; restart watering in smaller steps.
  • Dull surface: Handling can mark the waxy surface; use gentle airflow or a soft brush around the pot, not water trapped in the crown.
  • Mealybug pockets: Look between tight leaves and under old lower leaves, especially after warm dry spells indoors.

Colour response through the season

Colour on Echeveria agavoides cultivars is condition-responsive. Stronger light and cooler dry nights can make red edges more visible, while the plant should still be protected from sudden heat stress behind glass.

Safety around pets

Echeveria is generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs. The leaves are brittle and easily damaged, so place the plant away from pets that may chew or knock the rosette.

Agavoides name background

Echeveria belongs to Crassulaceae and honours Atanasio Echeverría y Godoy. The species name agavoides means agave-like, a direct reference to the pointed, succulent rosette.

Echeveria agavoides 'Pluto Galaxy' has firm leaf texture, measured growth and a clear agavoides outline.

Quality all the way around
Size: 2 Pack
Build quality is excellent with both plastic an metal parts. Can't say how long they will last, but my Gamma Sonic solar pole light is still going after 5-6 years. I also have some Gamma Sonic solar spot lights still working after 3 years. Expensive but worth it in the long run.

Very happy with these. Have several now.
Have many of these now. Seems like GOOD quality and heavier than most. I love the square and that fact that you can have either soft warm light or cool light with just a switch. Solar seems strong enough too.

Great
Color: Black, Size: 4 Pack
These outdoor lights are substantial, all metal. I have owned a set for 2 years now and they work great. That's why I ordered them again for another outdoor space.

Nice product
These are well constructed pathway lights. All metal and in particular I like that the solar panel is covered in glass. The solar panel on the cheap pathway lights end up getting dull and fail to work. The light given off is adequate for our needs. But they do not last through the entire evening. By about 5am the light becomes very dull.

Outdoor Lighting - Nice Fixtures Sturdy
Color: Black, Size: 2 Pack
After one year of use, these still work great, so we bought some more. Solar-powered, probably 8 to 12 hours of use on a full charge. Excellent construction. Northeast environment with snow, ice, and summer heat. A user-friendly replaceable battery pack was a must for us. These are not cheap, but they are well worth it. Two light levels, low and high, plus a selection of bright white and warm white, all at the flick of a rubberized weather-proof switch.
